Trans News Network Calls for New York Times Boycott

Trans News Network has a simple request, and they are right: not a single dime to The New York Times.

I haven’t discussed The New York Times’ leading role in transphobia for much the same reasons why I haven’t taken a quick jaunt up Mount Everest.

More organized people than me got there first.

Trans News Network is a worker-run nonprofit LGBTQ+ news organization, and because it is especially salient for them, they have a simple request: Not a single dime to an organization aiding and abetting their genocide.

The whole article is worth reading. One point I want to bring forward is that The New York Times is cited 29 times in US v. Skrmetti, the Supreme Court decision which upheld Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors. US v. Skrmetti is the sharp edge of the legal pogrom that is killing trans people. The New York Times gives intellectual cover to a handful of extremists.

Their ask is unambiguous:

No excuses, no exceptions. If you are giving so much as a dime to the NYT, you need to cease your support today. This is not optional if our lives and rights mean anything to you. This extends to sharing their articles on social media or, if at all possible, clicking on them, as they generate revenue through ads and virality. If you really need to talk about a piece, share a screenshot or quote snippet without a direct link to the article, as the NYT derives revenue even from gift articles.

Trans rights are human rights.
